Jesús Hdez-Güero

Jesús Hdez-Güero (Havana, 1983)

Graduated from the Instituto Superior de Arte (Havana) in 2009 and from the Cátedra Arte de Conducta led by artist Tania Bruguera in 2008. He also studied Professional Photography at EFTI-International Center of Photography and Film in Madrid (2018-2019). His practice spans different languages—from photography and installation to drawing, video or panting— with a persistent focus on politics, history, and other aspects of contemporary society.

 

His works have been included in I Karachi Biennial, Pakistan; IX and XII Havana Biennial, Cuba; X Liverpool Biennial, UK; VII Gwangju Biennial, South Korea. He has exhibited at the Arsenale in Venice (Italy), Le Palais de Tokyo (Paris, France), Maison Européenne de la Photographie (Paris, France), ESMoA (California, USA), Ludwig Forum für Internationale Kunst (Aachen, Germany); Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Roma (MACRO), Italy; Museo Alejandro Otero (MAO), Caracas, Venezuela; Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno (CAAM), Las Palmas de Gran Canarias; Centro-Museo Vasco de Arte Contemporáneo (Artium), Vitoria, Spain; among others. He has received the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, NY; the V Jacobo Tosio Grant, EFTI / International Center of Photography and Film, Madrid; the Unique Prize of the III International Festival of Videocreation “Close Up Vallarta”, Jalisco, Mexico; and the Artistic Residency “AIR Laboratory, Contemporary Art Center “Ujazdowski Castle”, Warsaw. He currently lives and works in Madrid.
