This work is part of a series in which Ariel Cabrera Montejo develops his neo-historicist narratives, which combine characters from different periods, situations, and origins, to fictionalize and reimagine history. What is unique about this recent series is the leading presence of water, a medium that symbolizes sensuality. In these aquariums/ canvases, artificial underwater environments are in dialogue with exterior scenes through glass or displays, offering a peculiar game of representations, contributing to the already disturbing pastiche of references and characters represented.

Cabrera Montejo studied at the Instituto Superior de Arte. He graduated from the Academia de Bellas Artes de Camagüey in 2002. While a student, he was in contact with works of art, documents, and collectible objects from the history of Cuba that directly influenced his practice, both conceptually and in the visual language used for its realization.
