Trained as an architect and designer, Terrazas was invited by renowned architect Pedro Ramírez Vázquez (1919-2013) to work on the design and communication strategies for the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City. For this expansive project Terrazas designed its logo, inspired by traditional threadwork designs by the Huichol people of Northwestern Mexico. The technique involves pressing colored wool thread into a wax surface. Terrazas went on to develop an artistic practice that sought to directly place this technique in dialogue with European traditions of Geometric Abstraction, such as those of the Dutch De Stijl and the Russian Supremacists. His 1972 Tablas series, of which the triangular compositions of 2.30 and 2.28 are outstanding examples, represent the earliest period of these investigations, which continue to engage the artist.
