Laura Lis

The work of Laura Lis (Havana, Cuba, 1983) can always be understood from an anthropological point of view, since one of her major ideo-aesthetic concerns is to inquire into the human condition of her contemporaries. Of course, her own life and history do not escape from this reflective exercise. She usually brings to the table her emotional conflicts, her self-definition as a woman, mother and artist, and the stories that serve as a structure for her identity. She is interested in issues related to current discussions about gender equality, the ways in which human beings manage and consume the natural resources at their disposal, and the impact of power in the spaces of art and everyday life. Generally, the actions she unleashes, directly or indirectly, involve the human body. Therefore, the perspective behind her work connects with a certain neo-renaissance trend palpable in contemporary art in recent decades. She currently lives and works in the city of Madrid.
