On February 21st, 2025, El Espacio 23 held an Open Studio for its Artists in Residence, Emilia Azcarate, Christian Vinck and Mariana Bunimov.
Emilia Azcárate is a Venezuelan artist born in 1964, known for her abstract work that explores cultural identity. She studied Fine Arts at Central Saint Martins in London. Her art often reinterprets colonial-era “casta” paintings, using color to challenge ideas of race and social hierarchy. She focuses on abstraction, repetition, and themes of spirituality and heritage.
Christian Vinck is a self-taught Venezuelan artist. His work includes painting, drawing, and sometimes three-dimensional and sound pieces. He draws inspiration from a wide range of subjects, such as antique documents, landscapes, baseball cards, and historical items, reflecting on Venezuela’s history.
Mariana Bunimov is a Venezuelan artist currently residing and working in Paris, France. Her work encompasses painting, drawing, and mixed-media pieces, often drawing inspiration from a wide array of subjects, including everyday objects, historical imagery, and personal experiences.
